East Malvern RSL Clubs

Golden Wattle Day Club

The Day Club program is a community support initiative of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs to assist the Veteran community to maximise a fulfilling and independent lifestyle. All Day Clubs have an Ex-Service Organisation Sponsor.

A Day Club is a regular social recreational group for veterans, their spouses, war widows/ers and any other older members of the community. Many older members of the Ex-Service community are keen to retain their ties with other ex-service men and women and to share in socialisation opportunities. However, it is not necessary to be a veteran or member of an ex-service organisation to be a Day Club member. The Day Club's purpose is to provide a supportive social outlet within the community for seniors and the veteran community. It aims to include those people who may be isolated or frail and unable to participate in other organised social programmes.

Each Day Club meets with the aim of supporting people who are still living mostly independently in the community. They may be living alone or being cared for by a spouse or their family. They may be at risk of becoming socially isolated through illness, loss of spouse or lack of suitable transport to link into community groups.

The club provides an environment which helps older members of the community maintain their physical and mental wellbeing through a range of activities, Day Clubs promote healthy attitudes and lifestyles.

A Day Club can contribute to maintaining a person’s independent lifestyle within their community.

The Golden Wattle Day Club meets every Thursday from 10.00am at the East Malvern RSL. Activities include luncheons, regular light exercise classes, a trading table for those unwanted treasures, guest speakers and bus trips to places of interest. Fees are minimal and designed to cover costs only.We hope you can come soon and join in these fun activities.
